Today, Milk + Honey had its first pop up! It was a charity bake sale with all proceeds going to support youth refugees who are aging out of Samaritas’ foster care program.
When I was first notified that Samaritas was urgently seeking homes for these youth refugees who are at risk of becoming homeless, my heart immediately sank. Unfortunately, J and I live in a tiny apartment and don’t have any extra room to support another person. The next best thing I could think of was to collect donations to help support these refugees as well as the families who do have the means to take them in.
I instantly became excited about hosting my first pop up with all proceeds going to these refugees. I recently received a cake cookbook, Layered, from a wedding cake studio I interned at and used it to make the cake slices. I also made two flavored macarons, a couple cookies, and red velvet cupcakes. This was a week’s worth of baking at its finest, especially when I saw how generously people were giving and the joy that baked goods bring.
All in all, we raised $686.95 in just one pop up. I sold out of all my cake slices and cupcakes! I lost my voice completely by the end, but it was a phenomenal day. Thank you to all who came out to the shop and contributed. I’m hoping and praying that the funds will be used greatly beyond our comprehension.
